Iceland - Diverse and Magical in Any Season!

Iceland - Diverse and Magical in Any Season!

Puffins, Auroras and Hot Springs...OH MY!!!

What is the best time of year to visit Iceland? Iceland is absolutely magical and an epic experience at any time of year. But that experience in summer will be completely different than a winter experience. ⁣

Summer in Iceland

In the summer you can see puffins nesting. You can take a boat into the Arctic to see whales, you can stay up all night and it will never get dark! The land is covered by yellow and purple flowers and vibrant green moss. The roads are all open and you can explore deep into the highlands and around the ring road. It is the ideal time for hiking and camping. Temperatures average 50* Fahrenheit but some days are much warmer. It rains more in the south coast region. But you can drive 5 minutes and find the sun. As the saying goes...if you don’t like the weather wait a minute. June to September are typically the high season of tourism so you can expect to see more groups in the well known spots. But have no fear, there are plenty of opportunities to be completely isolated in nature in Iceland. ⁣

Winter in Iceland

Winter has its own magic in Iceland. Winter activities such as Ice-caving & hunting for the northern lights are peak between November and April. The winter temperatures in Iceland are relatively mild given the latitude. Southern regions average 32 degrees F while in the north temperatures will average 14 degrees F. Hurricane force snow storms can move in quickly and make driving difficult and scary. In fact, many roads are closed in the winter. Keep this in mind when planning activities and accommodations. None the less winter provides amazing sights in Iceland. ⁣

Which season would you prefer to visit Iceland? My answer...BOTH! Having been at both times of year I can help you customize your dream itinerary. Let's chat and get planning!
